When I first began dreaming up Akua, it was playful, full of color and raw beginnings. I didn’t know exactly where it was going but I trusted the process. Akua began to shape herself. Over time, she softened. She became more refined, more sensual. She found her rhythm, her voice. And now, I let her guide me, design with me, she shows me what feels right.
Today, Akua is gentle, feminine, grounded in nature, yet free-spirited. She’s the feeling of sunlight on your bare skin, the scent of salt air in your hair, the quiet power of being completely, unapologetically yourself.
The Process: From Earth to Art
Every piece begins with a whisper, from nature, from art, from the curve of a shell or the way water catches light. I don’t look to trends. I look to the wild. I look to movement, texture, and stillness. I sketch endlessly until the form feels alive. Then comes fabric. Each design asks for something different, sometimes smooth and silky, sometimes textured or structured. I choose each material with intention, always guided by how it feels on the body and how it moves. When possible, I opt for sustainable options but above all, the fabric must complement the design. It has to speak the same language.
The Akua Woman
She’s soft but strong. Grounded, but always chasing wonder. She moves with intention and dresses like every moment matters. When I imagine her, I see a quiet cove in the Mediterranean, or a golden afternoon in Costa Rica, places where the outside world slows down and beauty feels effortless.
Signature Pieces, Told Through Nature
The Shell Collection is one of the proudest reflections of Akua’s spirit, a quiet return to the sea’s elegance. The Shell Triangle Top is soft yet sculptural, shaped after the shells I used to gather with sandy hands and a wide-eyed wonder. It’s feminine, refined, and made to be worn under the sun, dancing barefoot on the beach, or layered under linen on slow, balmy evenings. It’s for the days that turn into nights and the memories you don’t want to end.
As for my personal staples: the Micro Top and Micro Tie-Bottoms from our Timeless Collection. Barely there, but beautifully made. They’re crafted to contour and accentuate, to move with you like a second skin. Designed with UV-protective, chlorine-resistant fabric, they’re made to last, season after season. These are the pieces I reach for again and again. Effortless, flattering, and always ready for wherever the day takes me.
